Applying for Arts, Business, Economics or Science Co-op

We are now accepting applications to co-op. Scroll down to the "Steps in Applying Online" section for instructions on applying online through Navigator. The application deadline is Monday of the second week of classes in a student’s second year. In 2013, the deadline will be September 16.

Business and Economics students may view a webinar with guidelines on applying to co-op.

  • We accept applications from students enrolled full-time in honours programs in Arts, Business, Economics and Science at the Waterloo campus.

  • Applicants who meet the grade requirements for 2013 will be invited to schedule and attend an admission interview.

  • The minimum overall first year GPA was 8.0 out of 12 for students applying for admission to Business and Economics Co-op in 2012. We will set the minimum GPA for 2013 in July. Students must achieve the overall GPA requirement by the application deadline. (In 2012, the actual average GPA of all students admitted to Business and Economics Co-op was 9.8.)

  • Applicants to Arts Co-op and Science Co-op need an overall GPA of at least 7.0 in first year, or a GPA of at least 7.0 in their honours discipline courses and at least 6.5 overall, to be granted an admission interview.
  • We will begin interviewing candidates in early September. The deadline for eligible students to schedule interviews for admission to Arts Co-op or Science Co-op is Tuesday, September 17, 2013. The deadline for eligible students to schedule interviews for admission to Business and Economics Co-op is Monday, September 23, 2013.
  • When making admission decisions, co-op co-ordinators consider applicants’ first-year marks, recent work experience, recent volunteer and extracurricular activities, and performance in an interview.  See the introductory statement for more information about evaluation criteria.

  • Enrolment is limited; there are always many more applicants interviewed than there are spaces for co-op students. (For example, we receive applications from 500 to 600 Business and Economics students each year.)

  • A new sequence of work and study terms was added for BBA students admitted in 2012, and will be available to those admitted in 2013. BBA students will have to indicate their preference before the admission interview. Follow this link for the preference form and information about the sequences.

  • Applicants from Arts and Science will learn on September 20, 2013 whether they are being offered admission to the Co-op Option.

  • Applicants from Business and Economics will learn on Friday, October 4, 2013 whether they are being offered admission to the Co-op Option.

  • The only entry point for co-op is at the beginning of second year. Students who are removed from their academic program are not eligible to continue in co-op, even if they are later reinstated into that program.

Students on study permits may apply to and be admitted into co-op programs at Laurier. Please note, however, that we may limit the number of spaces available to international students.
