Introductory Statement for Interview

Before the admission interview, students in Business and Economics are asked to read the introductory statement below, to check a box confirming they have read the statement, and to hand the form to their interviewers. (Students in Arts and Science are asked to read a similar statement, but with different dates.)

BBA students need to complete a form on the reverse of the introductory statement, indicating which sequence of work and study terms they prefer. Please follow this link for more information about the sequence, and the form.

 Introductory Statement for Applicants

Please read the following statement carefully before your co-op admission interview:

Although we require a resume, we consider only what you tell us during the interview when evaluating your suitability for admission to co-op. We urge you to answer each question fully, and to provide examples from your own experience. (The ability to communicate your skills and accomplishments is a key component of the interview.) The interview will last no longer than 15 minutes.

During the interview, coordinators will evaluate your:

• work experience from the beginning of grade 11 to the end of the summer before your second year. *
• volunteer service and extracurricular activities from grade 11 to the end of Orientation Week before your second year. *
• academic record in your first year at Laurier
• performance during the interview

* We evaluate your work experience, volunteer service and extracurricular activities through the interview only, not from your resume.

• Co-ordinators will give equal weight to each category.
• Your interview is your only opportunity to tell us about your experience in each category.

At the end of the interview we will ask you to tell us anything you wish to add in support of your application. Be sure to tell us about any accomplishments or experience you have not had an opportunity to mention earlier.

Please note that we reserve the right to review your academic status and history with the School of Business and Economics.

Special Note:

Your interview is your only opportunity to tell us about your experience in each category. When considering the information you provide in the interview about your work and volunteer and extracurricular activities, we consider what you did, the time commitment involved, and how you performed in the interview to provide this information. We rank most highly those students who are able to articulate leadership roles, positions of responsibility, and/or experience in an office or professional environment, while maintaining a consistent level of involvement and a full work record from grade 11 through the end of Orientation Week.

We are able to consider extenuating circumstances only if you submitted the request form and letter before your interview.

Admission Decisions:
On Friday, October 4, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. we will send a message through your Laurier e-mail account notifying you of admission decisions and related instructions. The deadline for accepting the offer of admission is Monday, October 7, 2013.

Extenuating Circumstances

To have your extenuating circumstances considered, please submit the request form, a letter of explanation, and supporting documentation 48 hours before your interview, attached to your resume.

We will consider extenuating circumstances (from the list below) that may have an impact on your performance during the interview, or that may have had an impact on your marks in first year, on your ability to work, or on your ability to participate in volunteer service and extracurricular activities.

We will consider only the following extenuating circumstances:

• a learning disability that your educational institution was unable to accommodate, or that will have an impact on your performance in an interview.
• an ongoing chronic, debilitating, and serious health problem.
• a death in your immediate family (parents/guardian and siblings) during senior high school or your first year at university.
• a serious and prolonged illness that occurred during senior high school and/or your first year at university.

Note: We are able to consider extenuating circumstances only if you submitted the request form and letter before your interview.
