Co-operative education, a form of work-integrated learning, is a model of education that integrates and alternates a student’s academic learning with workplace learning in fields relevant to the student’s academic and personal goals. The Co-op Office approves jobs that will provide students with the opportunity to learn while performing productive work. Employers supervise their students and evaluate their performance, and co-op co-ordinators monitor students’ progress on the job. Students are paid by their employers.

We support participants in their career planning, job search efforts and preparation for interviews through workshops and individual attention. We market the program to employers, advertise positions to students, process applications and schedule interviews.
Most Laurier co-op students obtain positions in Toronto, the Kitchener-Waterloo area, and other cities in Ontario, but are willing to work anywhere in Canada. Some students find co-op employment overseas.
We provide advice on successful business conduct and instruction on writing work term reports. Coop co-ordinators conduct work term visits to assess whether the expectations of students and employers are being met. Supervisors complete a written performance review at the end of each work term, while students submit reports discussing their work term experience.
