Career Planning and Employment Preparation Workshops
Attend all five of our core Career Planning and Employment Preparation workshops to earn your Career Development Certificate, a valuable addition to your resumé and Co-curricular Record. 1. Career Planning
In this session you will learn the key steps in the career planning process. The goal of this session is to provide you with the information, insight and resources you need to begin identifying your best career matches. You will learn about available career assessments and the tools, resources and information you need to increase your awareness of your career options.
2. Resumé Writing
Employers want to see a targeted job application which demonstrates that a candidate is a good match for the position. Learn how to present your most relevant qualifications effectively and how to best connect your skills and abilities to a job. We’ll offer tips on the use of appropriate formatting and layout and how to select and present relevant content to an employer, whether you’re looking for a part-time or summer job while you study or a professional opportunity upon graduation.
3. Cover Letter Writing
An effective cover letter will show the employer why you are the best person for the job. Learn about the format, content and layout of compelling cover letters.
4. Job Search and Networking Strategies
Most job openings are filled before they are advertised. How can you gain a competitive edge in your job search? How can you increase your chances of getting the job you really want? Attend this workshop to learn how to tap into the hidden job market using effective job search and networking techniques. Identify and cultivate relevant network contacts to broaden opportunities and enhance your chances of success.
5. Interview Success
What are employers really looking for from candidates? Join us as we discuss how to prepare for a successful job interview. We’ll show you how to identify and present your best qualifications, formulate effective answers to common interview questions and offer you tips to help reduce stress and maximize your performance. Learn about making a positive first impression and about the advantages of a successful follow up.
