International Student Work Experience Program (ISWEP)

What is the International Student Work Experience Program?

ISWEP is an on-campus work experience program for international students at the Waterloo and Brantford campuses.

The goals of the International Student Work Experience Program (ISWEP) are to:
  • Create opportunities for international students to gain work experience on campus
  • Benefit the Laurier community with the global perspectives of our diverse international students

Am I Eligible to Apply?

To be considered for the ISWEP, students must fulfill the requirements listed below:

  • Must be an undergraduate international student (Permanent Residents, Canadian citizens, exchange students and graduate international students are not eligible to participate in this program)
  • Must have a valid study permit (you will need to upload a copy of your study permit)
  • Must be registered as a full-time student on the Waterloo or Brantford campus
  • Must have completed at least two full semesters of study at Laurier (i.e., should be in year two or above)
  • Must be in good academic standing according to program requirements
  • Must be available to work September 2015 to April 2016
  • Students are eligible for ISWEP positions for a maximum of two years
  • Attend the 'International Student Work Experience Program Orientation Session' or review the workshop slides.
  • Completion of the 'Career Development Certificate' is strongly recommended

Meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee an on-campus position. Once you have been accepted into the program, you must apply to available job postings in Navigator and compete with other students. You must meet minimum job requirements, be interviewed and hired for a position. You may only accept one ISWEP position.

Demonstrating financial need is not a requirement.

What is the Compensation?

The rate of pay in 2014-15 was $11 per hour. The maximum number of hours for each student is 60 hours per term.

  2. Complete the ISWEP online Approval Form and upload a copy of your valid study permit.
  3. The deadline for online Approval Forms was Sunday, September 13, 2015. No further forms will be accepted.
  4. Students will be emailed to learn whether they have met the criteria and are approved for the program.
  5. Students approved to the program will be emailed an ISWEP Eligibility Confirmation. An approved ISWEP Eligibility Confirmation is required to apply to on-campus ISWEP jobs.
  6. ISWEP job postings will be available in Navigator on September 8, 2015. After you have your Eligibility Confirmation, apply directly to the postings by submitting a resumé and cover letter to the hiring department.
