Palash Thakur, Senior Director, Data & Analytics, CIBC
Bachelor of Engineering '00, MBA '08, Sauder School of Business

  • Palash is a Senior Director within the Data & Analytics team and has been with CIBC for over 12 years. In his current role, Palash is accountable for modernizing, simplifying and standardizing CIBC's Data Analytics ecosystem, solving business problems through analytics, enabling data democratization for business users and developing a community of practice for data analytics. Palash is one of the lead organizers of the Data VizArt Student challenge, a data storytelling competition for post-secondary students across Canada. He also sits on the Advisory boards for ThoughtSpot and Schulich MBAN/MMAI. He is a passionate advocate of inclusion & diversity and is an executive member at the CIBC Women's Network.
Randolph J. Fernandez, Vice President, Technology and Innovation Banking, RBC
BSc. '08 University of Toronto, BEd '09 UOIT, MBA '12 Wilfrid Laurier University
  • Randolph started his career as a high school math and chemistry teacher. He originally obtained his MBA to further himself in school and board-level administration. During the MBA, he decided to pivot, and apply his analytical background differently – in the areas of business and data analytics for a start-up software firm. From there, Randolph moved to a larger organization, RBC Insurance, to answer broader analytics questions, and eventually migrated from Data Analytics to Strategy and Design. Randolph currently works at RBC Commercial Banking as a VP in the Tech and Innovation division where he analyzes the operational and financial performance of medium to large software and tech firms. In this capacity, Randolph advises these companies, and the bank, on various financial questions that shape the nature of their business relationship.
Joe Thacker, Founder and President, Fusion Analytics
MBA, University of Western Ontario Ivey School of Business
  • Joe founded Fusion in late 2006 and now works as an advisor to Executives on designing, optimizing and measuring their businesses. He has assembled what his clients say is "the best analytical team in Canada", and their "secret weapon" in today's retail environment. He currently works with Canadian Tire, Walmart, Home Depot, Sport Chek, Mark's, IKEA and many other retailers on measuring their businesses and isolating key drivers of sales. He has 20+ years of analytical experience and an MBA from Ivey Business School.

Trevor Buttrum, Manager Career Connections, Insurance Institute of Canada 
  • Trevor Buttrum is an award-winning leader in the talent management, career development. and adult learning space  He leverages 15+ years of experience to provide strategic and operational leadership the Career Connections program at the Insurance Institute of Canada. Trevor is committed to HR, career development, and learning practice which empowers individuals to become career builders for life.  His passion is anchored by post-graduate studies in both career development and adult education.  
    In 2018, Trevor was named Campus Recruiter of the Year by TalentEgg.ca (Canada's leading resource for students and new grads) and the Career Connections program received the prestigious 'Excellence in Innovation – Campus Recruitment Strategy and Employer Branding' Award from the Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers (CACEE).  And, just this past July, Career Connections was once again recognized with the 'Best Recruitment Branding Strategy by a Professional Association' and 'Recruiting Program of the Year – Not-for-Profit' at the National Recruiting Excellence Awards.
