Careers in Communications Panel


Attend this event to hear from Communication Studies alumni working in creative and cultural industries. Panelists will share stories about their career paths, tips for navigating the job market, and their perspectives on the industry's workplace climate. 

This event is hosted in partnership with the Communications Students' Association and the Department of Communication Studies.
The event is open to all students from the Faculty of Arts. 


Gabby Gosling - Digital Coordinator at TBK

  • Gabby is a 2022 Wilfrid Laurier University graduate who completed her degree in Communications. She sees many connections between effective communication and marketing and carries this belief into her current work in the digital marketing industry. She is currently employed at tbk, a digital marketing agency based out of London, ON as a Digital Coordinator, where she analyzes digital marketing trends, and manages and reports on digital advertising campaign analytics. Gabby attributes her academic achievements and current success to her willingness to push beyond her comfort zone and make connections within and outside her field. While working at tbk, she is also completing a postgraduate certificate program in Marketing Management at Fanshawe College. Gabby's journey is characterized by her dedication to learning and her commitment to navigating the ever-evolving landscape of digital marketing and the creative industries.
     
Hayley Graham - Senior Publicist at Touchwood PR
  • While looking to complete her internship in University, Hayley found herself with the Toronto Raptors at MLSE, diving into the world of sports communications. From there she transitioned into film and entertainment, and has been able to hone her skills in publicity and promotion, spearheading numerous campaigns across Canada. As a Senior Publicist at Touchwood PR, Hayley has had the privilege to collaborate with top industry figures, creatives, and media both in Canada and internationally.
     
Robin Spanton - Integrated Media Planning Supervisor at GALE
  • Robin graduated with honours in communication studies from Wilfrid Laurier University in the spring of 2018 and moved on to continue her studies at Humber College for a postgraduate degree in marketing management. In the spring of 2019, Robin began her career as a Media Planning Assistant at a marketing agency in Toronto, Publicis Media, where she worked on both pharmaceutical and retail accounts. After getting her feet wet in CPG/Pharm, Robin moved on to work at Gale Partners as a Media Planner on another global pharma account. During her time at Gale, she has continued to grow her career and is currently a Media Planning Supervisor. Within the last 3 years at Gale, Robin has worked on various pieces of business, predominately CPG Pharm and Financial Services. During this time, Robin has spent her days working to improve each of her client's brand awareness while working closely with their marketing teams to help achieve both business and marketing goals for the year. Robin has had the opportunity to work and collaborate on various campaigns across the digital space. 

Janaya Thomas - Senior Management Consultant at Daggerwing Group
  • Janaya Thomas has led many enterprise-wide change initiatives for Fortune 500 companies such as Mastercard, Dropbox, Nestlé, PepsiCo, Pfizer, and HPE to name a few. She's passionate about workplace culture and the employee experience, and prides herself in approaching complex organizational challenges with simple, inclusive, and human solutions. Janaya is also the co-founder of BloomHer Collective, a mentorship and development program supporting female athletes off the court - with a focus on enhancing self-confidence and the discovery of individual passions, skills, and values. Janaya is a proud graduate of Wilfrid Laurier's Communications Studies program and graduated in 2016.
