CC-101, Career Centre, 192 King St. N., Waterloo
Registration Deadline: Oct 8, 2019 05:00 PM

With the recent legalization of cannabis and the launch of Ontario's private retail model early in April, the number of opportunities in this industry has created "a candidate market" for jobs!  Come out and learn where jobs are being created and what skills are in short supply as they relate to production (quality, purification, etc.), operations, marketing, sales, regulatory affairs, technology, etc.

Join us as we welcome guests who will share their career experiences and advice. Attending this event is a great way to learn about potential career options and expand your professional network.

Confirmed panellists include:

Phil Niles (BA'05), Executive Vice President, GreenSeal Cannabis Co.
Phil Niles is currently in the role of Executive Vice President at GreenSeal Cannabis, a leading indoor cultivator with a focus on research and innovation within the cannabis industry.  In this role, Mr. Niles oversees the firm's broader corporate strategy as a member of the executive team.  Prior to joining the firm, he held varying senior roles within the financial services industry, most recent as a Director at MUFG Investor Services. His written work and citations have been featured in a wide variety of periodicals across North America, Europe, and Asia, including Forbes, Bloomberg, Reuters, Hedge Funds Review, Global Custodian, International Securities Services, Financial IT, Asia Asset Management, and Asset International.  He has been a frequent speaker at Wilfrid Laurier University in the institution's distinguished School of Business and Economics. In addition to undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics, financial management, and accounting, he has completed additional coursework through the Canadian Securities Institute and the London School of Journalism.  He also holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation.

Matt Plickert (BSc '14), Regulatory Affairs and Compliance Associate, Auxly Cannabis Group Inc.
Following his time at Laurier,  Matt taught English in South Korea and obtained a degree in Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs from Seneca College upon his return. He began employment at Johnson & Johnson Inc. where he became familiar with the Food and Drugs Act and oversaw the regulatory responsibilities for a portfolio that included cosmetics, natural health products and OTC drugs. At Auxly Cannabis Group Inc., Matt focuses on licensing and compliance both within the Canadian cannabis industry and abroad. Ensuring the Cannabis Act and Cannabis Regulations are followed by all licence holders within Auxly's family of companies, while driving innovation forward, is an important part of daily routine. As cannabis legislation sees reform across the globe, Canada has been given a great opportunity as it is looked upon for guidance and as a leader for the future.

Tristan Rea (BA '16), Marketing & Communications, Cann Tx Life Sciences
Tristan kickstarted his career through freelance marketing during high school, executing new innovative ideas to interact with audiences. He graduated from Conestoga College in the Accelerated Marketing Program after attending Ryerson University and Wilfrid Laurier University and continued his studies with a focus on Sales Growth through Cornell Business University. Shortly after legalization, he turned his attention towards the cannabis industry. In his current role, he helped develop social media campaigns, web design and brought fresh ideas to advertising campaigns — now building an innovative cannabis tech startup to benefit both, consumers and licensed producers in their practices.

Evan Rozakis-Adcock (BBA '16), Co-Founder and CEO, Verda Innovations Inc
Evan is the Co-Founder and CEO of Verda, a multi-sided platform that instantly provides legal cannabis retailers e-commerce and delivery solution and consumers the safety & convenience of same-day cannabis delivery. Evan started Verda with two close friends at age 18 and has gone on to raise over $700,000 and expand his team to 9 people. He has built a massive network in the cannabis industry, including executives at publically traded cannabis companies, high-ranking Government officials, and powerful VC's in the space. Evan has become a thought leader in the industry and has been called upon by certain Governments to advise on the rollout of cannabis regulations.

David Schenk, (BBA, '92), Founder, Manager and Lead Educator, Care Cannabis Clinics
After graduating from Laurier, David Schenk worked in the finance sector for over 25 years. However, as he became interested in the medical benefits of cannabis, more specifically cannabidiol as a substitute for addictive opioids, he switched industries. David is a passionate industry advocate based in Waterloo, bringing a better model of care and research education through his partnership with The Clinic Network to open the Waterloo Medical Cannabis Clinic. Additionally, he has also worked for Choom, a recreational retail cannabis company as a regional operations manager. Today, he is working at Care Cannabis Clinics Inc. in which he acts as a sales consultant exploring business development.
