Registration Deadline: Jun 21, 2023 02:00 PM

This event is intended for Master's and PhD students and postdoctoral fellows.

Come to this session to learn about the academic job search and academic interviews from Laurier faculty.

Dr. Pamela Malins, PhD, B.Ed, B.A, Hons.
Assistant Professor, Faculty of Education, Laurier

Pam is passionate about the inclusion of expansive representations and conversations of gender and sexuality in early childhood and elementary education. She celebrates LGBTQ+ children's literature, queer joy, and playfulness. Prior to her current position at Laurier, she worked as assistant professor at the University of New Brunswick for three years, completed her PhD from Western, her BEd from Nipissing, and her undergrad from Laurier Brantford! Before her graduate education, she taught across all divisions in Ontario. She spent two years in a grade 5/6 split classroom where she particularly enjoyed teaching literacies alongside a literacy coach, as well as health education which prompted her desire to learn more about curriculum and educator's opportunities to discuss gender and sexual identities. Pam also has experience working at the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion, downtown Toronto, where she worked in their learning team to co-create and facilitate workshops for employees across Canada and the US.

Dr. Andrew R. Basso, PhD
Adjunct Faculty, Political Science, Laurier

Dr. Basso is a researcher affiliated with the Laurier Institute for the Study of Public Opinion and Policy (LISPOP). Broadly speaking, he is interested in transitional justice, human rights, and atrocity crimes involving marginalized and Indigenous peoples across spatial and temporal boundaries.
Dr. Basso's qualitative and quantitative research encompasses three research projects: Reconciliation in Canada, domicide (the destruction of homes) and the human right to home globally, and displacement atrocity crimes. Please refer to my Current Book Projects pages for detailed information on each.
In addition to LISPOP, Dr. Basso is affiliated with the Centre for Research on Security Practices at Wilfrid Laurier University. Prior to this, Dr. Basso was a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Transitional Justice and Post-Conflict Reconstruction, and the Department of Political Science at Western University. He completed his SSHRC-funded Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Calgary, an MA in Political Science at Wilfrid Laurier University, and an Honours BA in History and International Studies at the University of Waterloo.
